Stripe and Paradigm Launch Tempo Blockchain to Challenge Visa and Mastercard in Stablecoin Payments
Stripe has entered the stablecoin payments race with Tempo, a high-throughput blockchain developed in partnership with Paradigm. The network promises 100,000 transactions per second and sub-second finality—a direct challenge to traditional payment processors like Visa and Mastercard.
Fireblocks simultaneously unveiled a global stablecoin network connecting enterprises to over 40 providers across 100 countries. The $281.2 billion stablecoin market now sees intensified competition between crypto-native solutions and legacy financial infrastructure.
Corporate heavyweights including Visa, Deutsche Bank, and Shopify are participating in Tempo's design phase. Stripe CEO Patrick Collison emphasized existing blockchains' inadequacy for commercial-scale payments: "We found that existing blockchains are not optimized for [stablecoin] use cases."
